like if you are playing a 1 gb high quality video than it loads the video bits (stored in 0 or 1 form) into ram if the video quality is 3gp or Mp4 than it will be loaded faster as it will take less space in the same way if you are playing temple run in 1 gb ram smartphone than it will load in ram easily but if you are playing a High Quality game than it will take time while loading into ram and hence it will blink on your screen and will not be executed by your smartphone appropriately.
If you are a student and doesn't have enough budget than you can take a 1 Gb ram smartphone and if your are a middle class person or a high standard person than try to buy the ram space as larger as possible because after 1 year or 2 year your smart phone may start hang problems if you will buy a less ram space smart phone . Stands for Read only memory while buying a smartphone this aspect doesn't much depend because this is permanent memory in your smartphone it is also a chip made of registers.
How ROM works ? Rom stores a little bit information permanently in its memory when we start a smartphone than the very first thing occurs in your smartphone is booting( the very first process in smartphone before appearing the screen ) in this period your power goes into Rom chip which points power to go for operating system i.e it is a switch between your power battery and android o.s ( the thing starts the mobile phone ) it decides what thing to load in ram from OS for displaying the mobile screen so while buying a smartphone this aspect doesn't affect much your smartphone.
